October 2024 - Lexington and Acadia

To continue the adventures, we visited the Lenhart clan for Fall break in 2024. We spent lots of fun time together on the flanking weekends, but visited Acadia with Aji and Aba during the week.

Gracious hosts by the fireplace.

Fun with roasting marshmallows.

Then - the kids (and adults) treated us to an impromptu talent show! There were batons, handstands, whistlehums, meditation sessions galore. We had a family photo shoot in the picturesque backyard before leaving to head back.

Day 1 of Acadia: Oct 7. A day of driving. But what's on the way to Maine from Boston? That's right, the L. L. Bean original superstore! Aji and Aba treated the kids to amazingly warm hats (Akash) and all-encompassing bear-a-clavas (girls). Pictures to follow.

Day 2: Oct 8. Jyo and I wake up early and go on a beautiful morning hike (Acadia Mountain and Man O War trail). 5.5mi, 600ft elevation, but the views were absolutely gorgeous (once the cloud cover abated).

...And, not to outdo ourselves, but we then decided to go on a family walk: Witch Hole and Pond Carriage Trail to Eagle Lake (2.75mi, 262ft).

We relaxed at home with a home cooked meal and an evening of card games.

Day 3, Oct 9: We booked a Rock Climb with Acadia Mountain Guides Climbing School. Our guide was a geologist who regaled us with fascinating history of the rocks at Acadia, and found a beautiful and challenging (yet still beginner level) climb for us. All 5 of us did the climb!

Unfortunately the rock climbing adventure was cut short by some rainy weather. And after packing up and getting back on the road...the rain stopped and it was beautiful again! So we decided to capitalize on the opportunity to go on another hike: Ship Harbor Trail, a fun and easy figure-8 loop along the coast.

The Bear-a-clava makes an appearance!

A daddo-daughter special moment.

Beautiful water along the shore (perfect for wading!).

Rocky shore (perfect for scrambling!).

Day 4: Oct 10. Relaxing morning and then a nice afternoon hike at Jordan Pond path, 3.42mi and 554ft elevation.

Aji, Aba, Jyoti and Akash continuing along the prescribed path, and Amulya, Saya and I decided to hike up the elevation to the famed South Bubble. An extra 500 ft straight up, but well worth it!

We met up with the rest of the group on the way down using some fancy GPS tracking.

An evening relaxing at home, but then -- Northern Lights! An unexpected but amazing experience. What a way to end our Acadia adventure. Really felt magical!

Day 5: October 11 - drove back to Lexington and hung out with the rest of the family before departing the next day.
